About
Heidi Laughton is an artist based in Kent, UK. Heidi creates paintings of atmospheric, abstract landscapes which lend a calming presence to interior spaces. Heidi’s paintings can be found in several galleries in the UK
After a long and creative career, mostly in music video production and photography, Heidi founded an art gallery in Bath for several years before returning to the joy of painting herself.
“ I love to start with an idea, and then manipulate the paints to see what they will produce, working intuitively. I might start with a representational impression of a place but the painting then goes on a journey of it’s own and I’m often surprised at where it ends up - sometimes totally different to the jumping off point. It’s almost as though the canvas or board is telling me what it wants! I’m particularly happy when I push the paints and mediums and they create magic in ways I didn’t expect and I like to keep those in as they are unexpected moments of surprise”.
Through subtle combinations of colour and texture, or layers of translucent glazing to create depth, the landscapes might appear both familiar and yet ethereal. Heidi aims to capture the evocative effects of glowing sunlight or foggy mists to create a visceral quality. The paintings are an attempt to hold those transitional moments when the landscapes seems to pause in stillness.
Heidi’s painting style is continually evolving. It’s hoped these paintings bring a sense of peacefulness to the homes of collectors as well.
