Screen printing fun

Well as this art journey of mine seemed to begin with a screen printing course I did a few years ago, I thought I’d chat more about it

Screen printing, if you haven’t tried it, is the process whereby special screen printing paint (called ink) is pulled through a mesh onto paper. An image is already depicted on the mesh - (there are ways of doing this, through stencils, drawing or photography which can be coated onto the mesh using a light sensitive chemical). Sounding complicated? Well it is a bit, which is why if you want to learn it’s best to go to a professional screen printing studio, but it’s a lot of fun!

I sent to Spike Island in Bristol and have also since been to Marshfield Screen Print near Bath. Both are really good and I highly recommend them. Here are some of my first attempts, but remember I was a beginner, so please don’t judge too harshly!

I have also attempted to screenprint onto wood, which kind of worked although I found the paint didn’t show up too well. This process needs more refining but is something I’d like to explore further in the future

So let me know if you love screen printing, or it’s something you’d love to try too

If you’d like to check out some really good screen printers, I just love the work of these artists:
