Abstract Landscapes:

“Interpreting the scene”

Painting Workshop

In this workshop you’ll learn how to interpret and abstract the landscape, and will be guided through some tips and exercises to create your own semi-abstract landscapes

What will you learn?

  • We’ll take a look at different styles of abstract landscape paintings including impressionistic, expressive and varying degrees of abstractness

  • After a painting demo, you’ll learn some tips for painting a small landscape on paper completely intuitively

  • We’ll take a look at mark-making techniques and tools

  • We’ll learn how to work from photographs or sketches to reduce a scene into shapes and tones

  • We’ll create a landscape in an expressive style

  • We’ll take what we have learnt to create our final piece on a wood panel

  • If we have time we’ll sketch outside on location ready for the final artwork
