Playing with Paint & Mark-Making

My first art workshop!

Art Workshop #1

I had so much fun on Sunday guiding some ladies at my first art workshop: “Playing with Paint & Mark-making”. I was slightly nervous and excited as it was my first workshop, but I needn’t have worried. It turned out to be a great morning and the only complaint was that the workshop wasn’t long enough! Once they started painting they just didn’t want to stop!

Some of the ladies were complete beginners and two had some experience from previous years. This particular workshop is all about starting from the beginning and learning the basics. We talked through the different types of paints, pens, pastels, mediums etc. We then looked at ways of applying paint and taking off paint and mark-making tools. We had a deeper dive into inks to see what they could do. We prepared a board for painting, did a freeing exercise, painted abstract backgrounds and talked about reductive processes and negative space. We basically just had fun whilst covering a lot of ground. I learnt that this workshop definitely needs to be a day rather than a morning. More time is needed, so next time lunch will be included and we’ll extend it to a full day workshop

If you’d like to join this art course keep an eye on the “Workshops” page of this website for information about forthcoming dates and to register your interest. I need a minimum of 6 to run the workshop so the more that register interest the better.

Please also keep an eye on the community facebook page where participants on the courses can upload their own work and support each other. https://www.facebook.com/groups/heidisartretreats

I was so thrilled to receive good feedback and was pleased to hear they are going to be joining the “Introduction to Abstract Landscapes” workshop too.

Hopefully I will see you too at the next one in the New Year!
