Our first Paint Along! Dec ‘22

Recently I had the idea to start an art group who could paint together outside on location here (in or near Bath, UK). So on a cold and foggy morning last Friday, we had our first meet up! We met at The Boathouse pub which is by the river on the Newbridge side of Bath

I guess I’m impulsive and when I have an idea I like to run with it so thinking back it would probably have been better to start this in Spring rather than December! However the ladies’ were a hardy bunch and they came along and braved the cold! Luckily the pub had heaters on their terrace and plied us with coffee to keep us warm

The great thing about these painting groups is the variety of techniques used. I had the idea after watching the Sky Arts “Landscape Artist of the Year” TV programme and loved the “Wild cards” section. It’s so interesting to see the different approaches artists take to painting the same scene. On this first Paint Along alone, there were inks; pens; digital; watercolours etc. All styles and all levels are welcome. Even if you don’t have much kit for “Plein Air” painting, don’t worry, just a sketch pad will suffice and give inspiration from which you can work later from home

These Paint Alongs will continue once and month and will be at a different location each month.
